The Bethel Difference: Field work begins your freshman year. We have a Kindergarten Lab on campus. Our education club hosts local educators and authors. Bethel's professors regularly engage with area school faculty to make sure our programs are meeting their needs.

NCATE’s performance-based accreditation system for teacher preparation ensures that teacher candidates are prepared to make a difference in preschool through twelfth grade classrooms. Kristie Cerling leads and teaches in both Adult and Graduate Studies and the Traditional Department of Education. Her particular areas of interest are in curriculum, and instruction and literacy.
Cerling has been a school administrator in area schools including stops as an assistant principal, principal, curriculum director and superintendent. Cerling earned her bachelor’s degree at Bethel College, her master’s degree and principal’s license at Indiana Wesleyan University, and her doctorate at Oakland City University.
Cerling is a teacher-consultant for the Hoosier Writing Project and a member of several professional organizations including: ASCD, International Reading Association, NCTE and others.
Michelle Fish teaches reading and language arts courses in both the undergraduate and AGS programs, and leads the traditional student teaching program.
She has experience as an educational technology training specialist, first grade teacher, and children’s ministries director at a church servicing over 300 children. 1994 Bethel College graduate, Fish earned a master’s in elementary education with a graduate reading minor from Indiana University South Bend, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Andrews University.
Fish maintains a professionalized Indiana teaching license in both general elementary education and reading. She holds professional memberships with the International Literacy Association and ASCD (formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development).
Diane Myers has her Bachelor of Science, Masters of Science and Principal Licensure Program degrees from Indiana University. She teaches undergraduate courses, including special education for general education teachers, and graduate courses in classroom management and transition to teaching. Her work focuses on educational leadership, learning disabilities, and mild and moderate/severe disabilities.
Jeffrey Stueve teaches educational pedagogy, elementary science methods, and graduate research methods courses.
Prior to 2009, Stueve was an assistant professor of family studies at the University of New Mexico. He has also served as a director of a Christian social service agency and deputy director of a refugee camp elementary school in the Philippines.
He is a graduate of Purdue University (B.S. and M.S. in education) and the University of Illinois (doctorate in human development and family studies). He has presented and published nationally in the area of fatherhood. He is currently a member of the National Science Teachers Association.
Bryan Waltz teaches courses in the traditional and graduate programs. He earned his Education Specialist and Master of Education degrees from Indiana Wesleyan University and his Bachelor of Science from Bowling Green State University.
He was a public school educator for 23 years, serving as director of curriculum, instruction, and assessment; principal of elementary and intermediate buildings; associate principal of a high school; and a 12-year teacher. He is certified as a superintendent, P-12 building administrator, K-6 teacher, and secondary teacher of English, speech communication and theatre, and government and citizenship.
Waltz has been certified as a trainer to improve K-12 schools, both in Indiana and nationally. He has provided professional development for school corporations and at state and national conferences.
Kathy Waymire worked as an administrative assistant at the Crossing Educational Center for 10 years. She has also had positions at Michiana Christian Montessori School, the Elkhart County Special Education Cooperative, and at Eastside Elementary School where she was a paraprofessional.
